Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how excited you were when your teacher called you up to the chalk board to solve a math a problem? Technology has come a long way from then. Now we have projectors that are extremely useful in a classroom. It makes learning so much interesting, enjoyable, and effortless.
My students are mainly English learners who are considered economically disadvantaged.
They live in a home with a single parent, grandparent, or foster parents who have to work long hours or even two jobs to be able to meet their basic needs. School is their second home, so I feel that students should have all the basic materials needed to make learning enjoyable and not stressful. Technology has advanced so much, and I truly desire for my students to embrace it as they are learning. Most of them don't even have a computer at home. School is the only place where they have limited access to technology.
My Project
Recently my ancient projector died. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts my school cannot buy me a new one. With a new projector, students will not only be thrilled to have a new projector in the classroom, it will make learning a breeze for them. We didn't value how much a projector is needed in the classroom until ours died. We use a projector on a daily basis, especially for math. Sixth grade math can be very complicated and lengthy with all of the steps that we have to follow just to solve one problem.
By having a new projector, I can once again zoom into just one math problem to be able to focus and guide students how to solve it step by step. Also, I can freeze an image of the worksheet we are working on and can have students come up and solve it on the white board. I can continue projecting educational movies from brain pop that they love watching. In addition, I can continue projecting power point presentations.
Having a projector use to be a luxury; now I strongly feel that it is an essential tool to have in the classroom.
Please help provide my students the necessary tools needed to enhance their learning experience. We desperately need a new Epson projector.
