I teach 7th -9th graders with varying abilities that come from a variety of towns and backgrounds. The students in my class have difficulty behaving in the traditional school setting; they been sent here to receive the tutoring and practice they need to be successful students. Once they have completed the program through our school, they are slowly transitioned back onto their traditional respective campuses.
Our kids need extra care, kindness, and consideration.
In my classroom, they are given, taught, and practice social skills alongside the knowledge essential for graduation in the state of Texas. My students are the unique and talented kids that need the extra leg up, a reminder that they are just as important and just as worthy.
My Project
I was recently told that the books from what used to be our library have been here years and years without an addition. In some cases, this means that the children here haven't had access to a new book since they've been at the school.
The students in this class want to read, but there's nothing here without literal and metaphorical dust.
When students are given only old, old books, they lose interest in reading. My class loves the new books that some students are able to purchase outside of school, but they've never had the chance to read them.
Help me give my classroom the books they want to read and keep asking me about.
