Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day, my students arrive at school with hope for their futures. Our school is a Title I school, which means we have a high percentage of students living in poverty. While poverty brings many hardships, it doesn't taint our attitudes and outlook at our school. Early each morning, you'll hear four hundred plus voices call out our "Bulldog Beliefs" with a rousing howl at the end! My school is the happiest school I've ever had the fortune to enter.
While many of their parents are working multiple jobs to provide for their families my students frequently care for their younger siblings and cousins.
Despite all the challenges they face, my students are dedicated readers and learners.
My Project
My students are avid readers and writers. We've been very fortunate to have a well-stocked library, thanks to generous donors. Now, my students need a place to keep their library books. Currently, we store their book bags in a tub that is nearly always overflowing.
We need a sturdy storage system that will help us keep our donated books in good shape!
These durable cubbies are rated highly rated by teachers and will be used for many years to come. Each student will have a cubby assigned to them and will keep their reading notebook, library books and pencil bags in their cubby.
Due to budget constraints, color ink is not provided by our school. The color ink will be used to print beautiful reading passages and activities for students to use. After using black and white handouts for most assignments, my students relish a chance to read something printed in vivid color.
