Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As the Athletic Director at an inner-city high school, I work with kids who are very at-risk for violence and gangs. Through athletic participation our programs keep 190 students involved and connected to academic success, at school and off the streets after school. Mission High demands that each athletic scholar maintain a minimum grade point to participate in athletic competition. Our student body is almost 90% of color, many with broken homes and very low income. One of the immediate needs for our athletic scholars is uniform socks for girls soccer and girls softball. With the cutbacks in our city's budget, athletic budgets are among the first to go. We need 25 pair of girls soccer socks and 20 pair of girls softball socks to keep our scholar-athletes' feet blister-free. This will help 45 female athletes this spring, have comfortable, healthy feet. Kids who do sports stay healthier, work harder and are achieving better grades. Please help our scholar-athletes!
