This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are thirsty and curious learners. They love reading and learning about anything new! New books can help expose them to different types of literature and help encourage their love for reading and learning to grow.

My 2nd graders are mostly low-income, English Language Learners that live in the same neighborhood in Oakland, California, as their school.

They attend a school that instills the belief that they will be expected to attend a four year university and will prepare them for the academic rigors to achieve this goal.

My Project

These books will help my students learn new content and expose them to different types of fiction and non-fiction literature at their appropriate reading level. They will practice their reading strategies by making personal connections to the books, writing summaries, learning about the main idea and author's purpose for writing the book, making inferences and visualizing details.

Having new, interesting books my students are able to read will help me to promote a literacy rich environment.

I want to encourage my students to read as much as possible in order to build their English vocabulary and their love of reading.
