Our students grow up in a close-knit, rural farming community. In this class of 26 advanced students, 89 percent of these will continue directly into a major university post-graduation. The remaining 11 percent will attend our local community college for a certificate or associates program.
Our students are brilliant, respectful, and driven and are responsible for our reputation as a high-achieving school.
Many of these students are active in extracurricular academic and sports activities, and the majority also work outside the home and school in part-time jobs. They are curious and active in helping themselves achieve a high school diploma, and several will also attend the community college in a dual enrollment program as part of their graduation status. Many will be first generation college students.
My Project
Students benefit from an organized teacher and a classroom with supplies at their fingertips. Some don't realize that these items are often purchased out of teacher's pockets. With these items, I will organize student plans, organize the classroom, and provide the items they need for day-to-day life in the classroom!
With these materials, our classroom will be able to run smoothly all year.
The teacher planner will allow us to have organized lesson plans – the backbone of classroom instruction. Pens, post-its, and index cards will help us learn our “word of the day” vocabulary by making brightly colored review cards. (Research indicates that the more manipulation with a word, the longer the word will stay in the teen brain!) A never-ending Kleenex box keeps us in the classroom and out of the bathroom during instruction so that we may engage with our new vocabulary. All of these things allow me to organize our classroom so students are learning from minute to minute, block to block.
