My Students

High blood pressure alone rarely causes serious problems in children, however, it’s important for children at risk for hypertension to have their blood pressure monitored regularly by their pediatrician or school nurse.

I am a nurse at an elementary school in a high poverty community.

Several of my children are overweight or obese and predisposed to conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. In the United States, about five of every hundred children have higher than normal blood pressure.

My Project

I am requesting two digital blood pressure monitors. The campus of my elementary school is divided into east and west buildings, and having two monitors would be beneficial to each office. Also, I will use the electronic monitor as a learning opportunity with the older children who are interested in science and health care.

Your donation will allow my students to have routine blood pressure and pulse screenings, and I will also be able to monitor children who are pre-hypertensive and report my findings to their families.
