We are more than paper and pencil creators! We really want to be able to record and listen to their own voices! We want to make podcasts, and to tell stories, we want to read aloud and hear ourselves read. We need a microphone to make these projects, and a CD player to save and share them.
Our urban school serves students from many different ethnic and social backgrounds, many of whom struggle to read on grade level.
We have had limited or no funding for library materials for many years, and the equipment in the school is hopelessly outdated or broken. Our students need every support they can get to learn to read, write and speak effectively, and being able to listen to their own voices, and to share oral projects, would be tremendously beneficial. We know from experience with activities that we have undertaken in other area schools that being able to create recorded stories and to listen to their own voices helps the students master the English language.
My Project
We have very little space to spare for special projects, and having a noise-canceling microphone will enable us to record under less than optimal conditions. The CD player will enable us to save our stories, podcasts and projects, and to share them with students in other classes. Right now we do not have a working CD player, so we cannot even use the recorded books in the Library!
Please help us bring the written word to life, and open up new possibilities for those students for whom reading and writing is so difficult.
Help us be hear ourselves and others, as we tell our stories. Help us hear to learn!
