My students need 2 sets of hands-on 2-D & 3-D Shapes center, two sets of Geometry Kits, 2 sets of Geometric Shapes Tubs, 2 sets of build & Learn Geometry kits and 2 folding shapes.
Help us learn about our three dimensional shapes!!! Do you remember yourself sitting in a classroom listening to your teacher lecture about something you have not seen before? Well, my students need to know all about three dimensional shapes without ever touching them.
My students are in first grade.
They are curious and can't wait for their turn to share what they know. I teach in the Bronx. My school houses children starting at Pre-Kindergarten and goes all the way to eighth grade. The majority of my students receive free lunch. Most of my students come from homes where there are single parents who are trying to raise their kids and work at the same time with little or no English. I have students from all over the world. These students learn best from visual and kinesthetic resources.
My Project
When I saw these wonderful resources I was so excited. Right now, I am trying to teach my children all about their three dimensional shapes. I could draw the most wonderful pictures and show them what each shape looks like, but they need to touch and feel the shapes in order for them to understand the concept. The resources that I discovered will help them do that. One of the resources will allow my students to build their own shapes using sticks. The other resources are simple three dimensional shapes that they need to explore. I also saw a resource that will take it to the next level and help my students compare three dimensional shapes. Wow! What a great way to learn and have fun at the same time.
How can I ask my students how many surfaces does a pyramid have without them exploring a pyramid?
Well, now I need your help to make this concept a breeze for my children. Please help my children understand how three dimensional shapes are different from two dimensional shapes. All of these resources will truly make learning about shapes so much more fun and simple.
