Many students find writing difficult, but are able to tell what they have learned orally. By using computer programs that allow them to create recordings, these students will be able to participate with their peers and share their knowledge on par with all others.
We are a middle school in a small urban area.
We teach about 800 students in grades 6 through 8. Our students represent a wide range of learning abilities, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many have difficulty reading and writing, but are eager to share what they know. We are trying to use technology and digital projects to help all students express themselves creatively, appropriately, and fluently.
My Project
Being able to create exciting, real-world projects which are related to the new Common Core Standards, would help our students compete with more affluent, more privileged students in other communities. Our graduates will be using technology in college, and in their jobs, and they should feel comfortable producing audio reports and multimedia products. The headphones would enable us to teach large groups of students to use PhotoStory, GarageBand, and other digital storytelling tools to express themselves and share their knowledge. We must move them beyond the pencil and paper, and this grant would allow us to expand their horizons!
Our students need to be able to communicate verbally, as well as in writing, and they need to be able to master many different types of technology.
Your donation will help us allow students to create digital projects that really convey their voices. Our students yearn to be heard - won't you help us?
