I teach a diverse student population who live in a wonderful, small community. Our district has been through some very difficult financial times in recent years. We have also lost many staff members due to budget cuts as well as low enrollment. However, the staff that remains has stayed positive and focused and our students are thriving.
My students come to school every morning eager and enthusiastic to learn, especially this year as I have incorporated flexible, fun seating options that help with focus such as yoga balls and wobble stools.
They are loving the new seating and getting to choose their spot and type of seat each day has helped immensely with my classroom management as they do not want to miss out on this privilege.
My Project
Having floor desks for my students to use would make a big difference in their learning. Right now I have various seating choices for my students which include yoga balls, wobble stools, and stools of various heights. I also have a lot of floor space in the front of my classroom where students often come to sit to be closer to the smart board.
Having these floor desks would provide so much more comfort for my students than just sitting on the floor using a clipboard while also holding their chromebooks which we use throughout the day.
I also work with small groups on the carpet throughout each day so having these floor desks available would be wonderful and would provide comfort and more focus for my students on the floor.
