Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are my heroes. My students are battling life threatening illnesses. One has end stage renal failure. All of my students are from low income households. My students are the most inspiring people I've ever met. My students are brave. I work with students in grades K-12 who have serious medical issues such as cancer. All of my students come to school ready to learn. It is a joy and a privilege to work with these students. Each day, they try their best in school while battling cancer or waiting for an organ transplant.
I work with students in grades K-12 who have serious and life-threatening medical conditions.
Some students have life-threatening conditions such as cancer. Other students are on the transplant list waiting for an organ transplant. A few students have been hit by a car or were in a car accident. Most of the students experience pain on a daily basis.
All of my students are very brave and a pleasure to work with. Each day, they try their best in school while battling cancer or waiting for an organ transplant. In addition to their serious medical problems, all of my students reside in high poverty .
My Project
I will use the materials to train approximately 50 teachers in the fundamentals of yoga. The educators will learn about how they can incorporate yoga into the classroom.

I do my best to teach teachers and students slow breathing, yoga poses, stretches and simple meditation practices to help students connect with their bodies and regain control over their minds and their learning. This helps release the stress and anxiety that my students carry with them. Yoga allows them to access their education with a clear mind. I utilize literacy books about yoga that teach students about the elements of self-care. As a literacy expert, I will be training the teachers in researched based literacy practices with these yoga books.
As a public school teachers, we have the challenge each day of educating students who enter the classroom with anxiety and stress.
Many students experience trauma and crisis at home, then are expected to come to school ready to learn. It is my belief that students have difficulty learning if they are unable to access inner peace and self worth. These yoga mats, books, and yoga cards will help me to teach educators to incorporate yoga, stretching, and meditation practice into approximately 50 inner city classrooms!
