My Students
My name is David Bardach and I’m the school social worker for 8th grade at a Title I middle school in Anacostia, South East. Our scholars are students with amazing potential, but have limited resources to insure that they are able to reach their goals. They are resilient and inspiring and have a desire to make a difference in their own lives and those of others. It is for these reasons that we are asking for your assistance. Thank you in advance.
My Project
First day of school and a sixth grade female student comes into my office as she is getting teased because she had started getting body odor, but didn't have any deodorant at home to use.
The student is crying as she tells her story about the incident of bullying and we assure her that consequences to the other students involved were imminent.
Luckily, a fellow clinician had her own personal wipes which the student was able to use and the student after using them was ready to return to class.
The student was now confident to go about her day and even came back later in the day to get some more because she wanted to try out for cheerleading team that day after school.
Without these supplies including lotion, hand and body wipes, deodorant and hand sanitizer that a staff person was able to provide, this student would've had a drastically different day and most likely would've endured more teasing because of her body odor.
Thank goodness we were able to supply this child with exactly what she needed at that time. Thanks in advance for helping to afford all our students this same luxury.
