My kindergarten students are early readers and writers. One of the most powerful methods I use as a teacher is to invite them into the world of print up close. A document camera will allow me to enlarge text so that all children can see the writing that is being shared.
My kindergarten students are a mix of English Language Learners and English speakers.
Most of them are from families who have recently immigrated and face socioeconomic challenges. Many of my pupils arrived in September possessing very little English and with no preschool background. Despite these challenges, all are beginning to read and write. They are fun, hardworking, and enthusiastic learners. Their families are supportive in every way. Our school works hard to support the needs of all learners, but limited funding affects the district's ability to provide enrichment resources. This document camera will help my students achieve the tremendous potential they all display.
My Project
A document camera will grant me the opportunity to enlarge text and pictures from books that I read aloud, enhancing the meaning of the stories to my students through allowing all of them to better see the words and illustrations. Furthermore, the document camera will allow me to enlarge the children's own writing which will more easily let them share their writing with each other and classroom visitors. The students' ability to see their peers' writing up close will also enhance their understanding of how the writing process develops at the beginning stages which is critical to further writing development.
