Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The performing arts students at PHS in New Jersey are no strangers to adversity. Most of our student population comes from low income families and they receive free/reduced lunches. Our students are passionate about the arts and having a creative outlet, but our theatrical supplies are extremely limited. Even with only 3 functioning microphones, we still manage to stage several theatrical productions throughout the year. This year... I want them to be heard! We are planning to do our first Spring Musical in 3 years due to lack of funding. Our performers deserve to have functioning sound equipment to allow the audience to hear what they have worked so hard perfecting. The joy on their faces when they are in front of an audience doing what they love is what I love the most, and is the reason why I am a theatre teacher.
My Project
The opportunity to have functioning sound equipment will enable our performing arts student's voices to be heard in their high school musical performances. It will increase their confidence levels and help our program to grow and expand. Our students will gain experience using professional audio equipment and enjoy the opportunity to perform in front of an audience who will actually be able to hear what they are saying! Students will be able to rehearse and perform with the audio equipment that they deserve. They will sing, dance, and act with a newfound appreciation for the arts and hopefully, it will inspire others to join in on the fun. It will also provide students with an interest in technical theater to learn how to use the audio equipment.
