Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic group of first graders. I teach a group of first-graders who love learning and going to school. If you were to ask my students what their favorite subject is, you would get a wide range of answers including math, reading, social studies, science, and art.
Our school is very small but diverse.
We not only have many regular education classes but also have three special education classes. Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free lunch. Most of my first graders are Limited English Proficient.
My Project
I have asked for sets of Crayola crayons, glue sticks, pencil sharpener, pencils, dry erase markers, and pencil boxes. My students will have the opportunity to draw, color, sketch all types of art projects that will supplement our everyday curriculum. They can have their very own brand new crayons to color their projects without having to pass the lone red or pink crayon from group to group. They will have glue to glue their animal report dioramas or even basic Language Arts work that has them sort their words and glue them down under the correct headings. They will learn how to express themselves artistically and with a different tool other than their traditional pencil and paper. My students need this hands-on opportunity to work with art supplies. They will also learn organization by storing their supplies in pencil boxes.
