Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic group of first graders. They have done a great job this year learning how to read, write and learn math. They are in dire need for some artistic expression and creativity. We do not have any art supplies left for the end of the year in order to foster this need.
Our school is very small but diverse.
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school. Most of my first graders are Limited English Proficient.
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are very creative and are in need of basic art supplies. Many of my students brought in a box of crayons, a few pencils, and a glue stick in the beginning of the year. But now this time of year it is difficult for them to find the money to purchase additional supplies. In fact, I have purchased several sets of crayons and glue to supplement the school year for each of my students, but now we are in need of too many supplies to finish out our school year let alone create wonderful art projects for our upcoming Open House.
My Project
I have asked for sets of Crayola crayons, glue sticks, glue bottles, scissors, colored pencils and sharpener, pencils, Crayola watercolors, and watercolor paper. My students will have the opportunity to draw, color, sketch, and paint all types of art projects that will supplement our everyday curriculum. They can have their very own supplies to make watercolor paintings, brand new crayons to color their projects without having to pass the lone red or pink crayon from group to group. They will have glue to glue their animal report dioramas or even basic Language Arts work that has them sort their words and glue them down under the correct headings. They will have scissors not only for right handed students but for my left handed students too. They will learn how to express themselves artistically and with a different tool other than their traditional pencil and paper. My students need this hands-on opportunity to work with art supplies.
Donations to my project will give my students and our classroom a tremendous boost.
We are down to the bare bones with art supplies and are in desperate need for these gifts. We will be able to immediately create and show off our work for our upcoming Open House. My students will be proud to show off their work that will have been colored in with brand new colors, or painted with never before used watercolors.
