My students need 30 chair pockets.

You can't find your book??!!! You don't know where your writing journal is?? Please clean up your area (again). These are daily words in my classroom. My inner city fourth graders have to listen to me nag all day long.
They are constantly bombarded with my need for organization. Unfortunately they have desks that are 20 years old - and there are no new desks coming anytime soon. The desks they have do not even come close to keeping up with the needs of a modern classroom. Space is very limited. Over the past few years, new textbooks have become larger and we often have more than one book per subject. My 4th graders have many different folders and notebooks, just so we can organize all the tasks we need to do during the day. If you couple the lack of desk space with a teacher who cringes at books all over the floor, torn up paperbacks (due to being shoved in an overcrowded desk), and students who have to empty the entire content of their desk just to find one item - then you feel my students' pain.
A few years ago I saw an ad for over the chair storage pockets to increase desk space for students. At the time, I loved the idea, but I also knew I could not afford it. With Donors Choose, my students just might have the opportunity to get 30 over the chair organizers. My student's would be thrilled to be able to actually bring some of their own supplies and books in - which they are not allowed to do right now because of lack of space. I'm sure they would be even happier to not have to hear me complain about the mess on the floor or telling them to stop sitting on their books!
These chair pockets would make it possible for my students to become more organized. Our textbooks and journals would also be in much better shape - since overcrowded desks always cause bent pages, torn covers and torn up work (unintentional of course). I know my students would be so excited about these pockets!
