My students are enthusiastic and curious. They love to learn and love to have new adventures. My students love to sing, dance, and learn new things every day.
They attend a high-needs Title I school with very little funding for additional materials.
Most of my students come from homes in which their social, emotional, educational, and basic needs are not met. A lot of my students are English Language Learners and struggle with reading and math.

My Project
Sight words are difficult for kindergarten students to learn. Why are they hard and what are sight words you may ask. According to Wikipedia sight words, often also called high frequency sight words, are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight, so that they can automatically recognize these words in print within three seconds without having to use any strategies to decode.
I have found the best way to teach these difficult words is to bring play into their center times, while meeting kindergarten standards.
I plan to use the sight word cards and the Lite Bright units to bring play and academics together. This center will give my students developmentally appropriate purposeful play. They will find joy and gain a massive amount of word knowledge through this experience, but is can only happen with your support!
