Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I performance improvement school with the majority of our students participating in the free lunch program. For many of my students, school is where they have access to books, supplies, and other resources that support their academic achievements. Many of my students come from homes where their parents are working hard to make ends meet and want their students to be successful in school. My second graders are inquisitive and they love to learn; they inspire my teaching every day!
Fostering a love of music and learning how to play an instrument is a gift I give my students because they love it, and I know that it grows their brains!
My Project
My students love learning how to play the ukulele, and I am constantly looking for songs that they want to play and have just the right amount of challenge.
What motivates my students to play ukulele is learning how to play songs they are familiar with and love; a collection of songbooks that have songs for my beginners as well as students in my after school ukulele club will be ideal in helping my students grow their musical abilities.
The songbooks listed in this project will offer a variety of songs that my students want to learn while accommodating the different levels of playing ability my students have. Not only will the books be used to find songs my students can learn how to play, but they will be available for my older students to check out for use at home. The chart holder will be used to help manage books lent to my students, while the magnetic display shelves will be used to highlight some of the songbooks to pique my students' interests. The transition CD will be used in class to help my students transition into music and cleaning up after we are done.
