Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten in a 90 percent free lunch school. We are a perform higher than most of the schools in our area with a similar popular. I have 30 students and 25 are English Learners of various languages. We are just 15 points away from our state's testing goal for all schools.
We are fortunate enough to have a TAG reader system in our classroom, thanks to donations. However, we only have 4 copies of the same book. The students have been reading and listening to the same story for over a month. There is no money for funding additional books.
This is an opportunity to expand the voracious reading of my students by offering them more of a selection of titles. We are asking for a set of TAG reader children's classics. These are high interest books that we would love to hear come alive in our classroom everyday. Our favorite Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is included in this pack. This book is helping us learn letter names, letter order and discriminating capital and lower case. Letter skills are a key element of kindergarten learning. My students are also learning how to retell story and check for understanding. The TAG books give the freedom to re read answer and answer comprehension questions on each page. The books will develop many of the skill needed to read independently and will give each student the opportunity to select a book that interest them as well.
Your donations will make sure every child can read everyday in the classroom. This is a crucial element in developing early literacy skills. The TAG books are read with infliction and intonation. The books allow the students the opportunity to read at there own pace, as well as re read unfamiliar text. The books also ask questions that develop vocabulary and story element skills. Many of my students do not have parents who can read in English this is there opportunity to hear another example of English speech besides my own voice. All of these skills are crucial to reading and need to practiced many times with multiple types of literature. Your donations will make this possible. Thank you for helping develop lifelong readers.
