Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing and resilient. Many are immigrants or from immigrant families. Many are affected by being homeless and neighborhood violence but come to school everyday ready to learn.
In a neighborhood where violence is an everyday part of life, school becomes so much more than just a place to learn.
The students in my classroom recognize the value of an education as a means to a positive future and hopefully, someday a safer community as well.
Our students are English Language Learners in an urban neighborhood. School is their safe haven and a place where they can focus on a positive future. They are eager to learn and take pride in the investment of others in their education.
My Project
Many of my students come from families where they have had very negative experiences with money and budgeting. Many of my students do not have their own money or experience with saving or budgeting their own money. As a part of math and social emotional learning, I want my students to have a chance to learn these vital skills through play. During both class and our after school board game club I want them to begin developing a familiarity with money and have fun at the same time.
I'm requesting a Square Green Metal Indoor-Outdoor Table where students can work and play.
I'm also asking for a Learning Resources Money Bags Coin Value Game, Net Worth, the FUN Money Game, The Game of Life, and Monopoly.
These board games and game table will help make this an amazing experience for all of my students.
