Music is my life and I try to inspire the more than 400 students I teach weekly at my amazing elementary school! I teach students from all backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and ability levels a plethora of music history, music theory, the basics of instruments and reading music, as well as the basics of singing and performing. My students are enthusiastic learners and always excited to play the various instruments I have (drums, keyboard, and more!) and sing and dance to the songs I teach them.
There are so many possibilities when it comes to teaching music and with my passion for enriching my students lives with this in mind, their opportunities in music are endless!
With the love I have for music, and the love for music and the arts I try to instill in my students I sometimes am held back due to lack of resources. I teach music as one of the students' special electives in grades kindergarten through fourth graders twice a week. In addition to that, each year, every grade I teach sing, dance, and perform at their grade level annual concert. It would benefit my students greatly to have access to more resources!
My Project
Teaching over 400 students about music is a tremendous task, but one that I love! With that said, there are so many resources that would benefit my teaching and their learning to make my music classes that much greater. My students have keyboards to play on, but have no headphones. This project would provide each student with their own headphones to use while playing on the keyboard as to not interrupt another student's learning and concentration. In addition to headphones, a reversible staff white board would help so much as I could teach them how to read and play music without having to constantly draw lines on the chalkboard. Having resource books for playing the piano and rhythm activities would be amazing to provide me with extra ideas and ways to teach music education. Finally, having a gathering drum would be awesome to start and end transitions throughout each music class.
There is so much one can do when teaching and learning about music and having materials and resources at my fingertips would substantially help my students learn to love music.
The materials in the project will not only benefit my students by providing them with resources to use, but will also create a room filled with music items to enrich their love of music education!
