Playing Board Games to Improve Social Skills

My Students

The COVID-19 pandemic stopped students from attending school physically for 18 months! This fall we came back in person and will need to integrate reading and writing within all of our content to close any learning gaps that may have occurred. Additionally, I am finding it important to provide opportunities for more turn-taking and social interactions.

One hundred percent of students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch.

Students at the school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative learners because of our full-inclusion structure. It’s a beautiful climate because of the diversity in ethnicity, ability, and social functioning. I'm trying to get my students the materials they need to succeed academically.

My Project

Learning through play is not just for kindergarten! Students in my third grade class will spend a lot of time indoors because of cold temperatures in Wisconsin through the winter. I am looking to enhance the indoor options in my classroom so that students do not go onto the computer. We've spent enough time on the computer while learning virtually for 18 months.

Through board games students will be able to have fun while practicing turn-taking, logic and problem-solving skills as well as teamwork.

They will love learning and playing games such as Uno, Yahtzee, Sorry, Mancala, Checkers, Candy Land, Connect4, and Trouble. The games are classics but still engaging to students
