My Students

The students of our school are loving, excited learners who are striving to daily acquire skills and grow outside of the small bit of world they are exposed to. To maximize their learning, we use a whole child approach of learning that is built upon daily outdoor, hands-on play.

Though our students come from a high poverty area and haven't had exposure to lots of life experiences, they soak up every given opportunity and love taking advantage of hands-on play, field trips and other events that allow them to glimpse the bigger world.

My Project

Our project would allow us to enhance our students daily, hands-on, outdoor play opportunities. Each student would have access to daily use of our playground. PE classes would also be able to access the playground for additional time. These opportunities foster improved physical health, improved social skills, and growth in overall learning. Our current playground contains pieces that are broken and do not offer enough play opportunities to foster social interactions and leadership.

Data shows us the positive effects of daily outdoor play that can't be ignored.

Specifically, research has continually shown that students who have daily active play learning opportunities are less fidgety, more on task, have improved memory, more focused attention, develop more brain connections, learn negotiation skills, and exercise leadership skills.

Allowing students the opportunity to access outdoor play with new playground pieces would have a positive effect on all learners.
