This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Children need physical activity during their fast-paced, information filled school day. I teach fourth grade in a high-need community in Virginia. These students do not have many resources at their homes, so I try to provide as much as I possibly can.
This playground equipment is not only for my classroom, but for all of the 120 children in fourth grade. Our students last year kept asking for playground equipment, but our PTO would not fund it.
I have requested 10 single jump ropes, 4 double dutch jump ropes, 3 playground balls, 3 footballs, and 3 soccer balls. There is a large blacktop area to run around on outside, but nothing to play with on it. The children get so run down from the grueling daily routine of the school day that they need a time to relax and just be kids. I hope I am able to provide this for them this year.
You will ensure that my students have a time each school day to be the kids they are supposed to be and not be worrying about the tests that are emphasized. I hope to be able to let my students enjoy their recess time during the school day and receive more physical activity than just walking around a blacktop.
