I teach students with mild to moderate disabilities including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and developmental delays.
My students are included in their general education classrooms for a majority of the day and are pulled for one-on-one and/or small group instruction in my special education classroom for social skills and academics.
One of the times of the day that my students need the most support in is recess. Because this is an unstructured time, my students have challenges making appropriate choices. With your help, this project will provide us with equipment to facilitate "Recess Club," which will give my students opportunities to practice their social play skills in a safe, supervised environment.
My Project
Due to the nature of my student's disabilities, they often struggle to find appropriate ways to play with their peers during recess. In order to help my students be successful during these unstructured times, I have implemented a "recess club" in which they can invite their peers to play games in a small group.
The materials I am requesting for this project include playground balls, basketballs, and soccer balls.
These will allow us to play a variety of games during Recess Club for my students to engage in! By giving more structure to recess, my students can learn appropriate ways to play with their peers.
