We have 100 five year olds playing on one structure during recess. We do not have any balls or hoops for the students to practice their gross motor skills. We would love to offer more choices for their recess time.
I work at a Title 1 school in Northern California.
Our students are diverse and come from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Our school community has a large transient population made up of military families and families in economic distress.
My Project
These materials are the building blocks to developing the skills to learn how to participate in team sports at a later age. Many of our students have not had opportunities for cooperative play and need multiple opportunities to learn how to play with other kids. The basketball stand and balls will help students develop their large motor skills such as dribbling, passing and general hand-eye coordination. The lanyards will be used for the children to wear their job badges during lunch and recess and will help build a sense of responsibility.
The students will have more opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor skills and make healthier choices for their bodies.
Having the lanyards will allow the student to show accountability and dedication to their responsibilities.
