Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed with eighteen, first grade students in my classroom who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. However, my students come from many different backgrounds which sometimes makes it difficult for students to be exposed to grade-level content at home. Students come from homes that are unable to provide basic supplies, not to mention school supplies. They are made up from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students and those receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Some of my students may even experience being homeless during the school year. Homelessness is an experience that individual people have, rather than a label. It is my goal as their teacher to provide them with basic necessities.
Seventy percent of our students receive free or reduced-price meals.

My Project
My students need recess equipment! We have very little recess equipment, so when students go outside they normally just sit on the benches outside or run around in circles. With a full set of recess equipment, my students will be able to take a break from learning a few times a week to exercise their bodies in ways that will continue to help the blood flow in healthy ways to their brains. Students will be able to release stress while having fun doing it! The materials I have requested for our school will promote group bonding and the materials will help students find ways outside of the classroom to build community and friendships with each other. Students will learn to get along, work together, take turns, help one another, and leadership skills through the activities that will be played with these materials.
New recess equipment will improve our recess time by 100% as we currently have very little supplies to use during recess.
My students will be ecstatic to know that they will have exciting things to do when they reach our recess yard each day. I can't wait to see the joy on each of their faces when a loving donor like you chooses to help our class obtain optimal fun while releasing the stress of the day during recess!
