My Students

My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Most are second language learners, who need visuals and extra support learning the language. The area around the school is mostly apartments. My students need extra supplies in order to jump start their learning and get them ready to start reading and writing. Students are so enthusiastic about learning and wanting to grasp the language, sounds and words. With these supplies, students will have the opportunity to get to where they need to be in kindergarten.

My Project

Some students need sensory items in order for them to succeed in learning. Having playdough will give students the necessary sensory item to be able to focus and learn as they play along. My students loved using playdough at the beginning of the school year as we started to learn how to form letters, but now that playdough is all old and crumbly. Students would also be able to use the playdough during choice time to create their own worlds and let their imaginations run free. Students would be using and improving their fine motor skills by having to roll, flatten and stamp the playdough.
