Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a neighborhood of Dallas effected by poverty where only 2.2% of the population has a college diploma and over 68% never completed high school. For the students in my room, 100% will graduate high school and 100% will have acceptance to a university when they receive their high school diploma.
From day 1 of entering our school, the question is not if they will go to college but where they will go!
It is the love of learning that begins this journey from a young age.
My Project
The majority of my class are a part of the English as a Second Language program at my school. We often struggle to give these students the confidence to practice the English they already know, because the content can be intimidating.
Allowing students a fun way to engage with their peers and interact in English would be an invaluable opportunity for students who lack confidence when it comes to academic rigor.
Help me give my students fun ways to engage and practice their listening and speaking skills that are so crucial to the early formation of a healthy, functioning member of society! We can play and learn, if only we are given the opportunity!
