My students need games that focus on the acquisition of English language. These games will help students from all acquisition levels: those who have no English language proficiency and those who are still acquiring English proficiency.

My Students
My ESOL students are great! They love to be at school and they are always eager to learn. My students are from a Title I school in Maryland. The majority of my students come from Spanish speaking countries, and the entire school has an array of nationalities.
My students' families are always eager to help in school projects, and we have a high percentage of parental involvement in children's academic progress.
My students are kind, polite, and funny (as you can see in the pictures).
My Project
My ESOL class has a variety of students who are still learning English as a Second Language. We do not have any academic board games in class. This project was created with the purpose to provide my students a time where they can relax, take a break from instruction, and enjoy some games with their peers, at the same time, they will be learning English language and acquiring academic skills.
Games (board and card games) are an excellent way to learn a new language and have fun while doing it.
All my students will be able to enjoy the games, the ones who are brand new to the country and the ones who are still acquiring English language. I plan to use these games once a week in our weekly schedule, this way the students will get used to have a day where they can relax and have fun while learning English in class. Some of the board games focus on main idea passages, supporting details, and inferences- all of these skills are skills that we are learning and studying in class.
My students spend the whole day trying to learn a second language, I think they deserve a break from instruction, don't you think?
Help me provide my students a break from instruction and let my students enjoy each other as they play games in class.
