My students need games that teach! They can learn how to persevere in solving problems, listen to different perspectives, think through consequences, and engage with others in a positive way.
My students are learning how to navigate in an increasingly challenging world. Learning how to listen and appreciate different perspectives are essential skills for being part of a community, and will be an asset to them in the future.
Playing games is an excellent simulation of the challenges they will face when thinking through ideas, incorporating all points of view, and solving problems.
This year, they will spend more time working in teams and collaborating, so I want to give them the skills to be successful.
My Project
In our test-driven education system, students needs time to learn the intangible skills that make them good friends, happy students, and motivated learners. Games can help students start conversations with new people, see the value of perseverance, and learn how to solve complex problems.
My students love games and I use games to build community in my classroom, but playing provides so much more.
Students can learn how to learn by playing games that make them think! At the center of thinking is taking in information through listening and reading, and being able to communicate through speaking and writing. Playing games is motivating, social, and a fun way to use your brain.
