Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The best thing about my class is that there isn't a typical day. EAST (Environmental and Spatial Technology) is a project-based class that gives students the opportunity to explore something that interests them, helps the community, and uses cutting edge technology while making a difference.
One thing our EAST Program does is support numerous programs in our school, as we are at Title I school and resources can be tight.
For this project, we want to obtain the resources we need to support teachers in our building taking students on "virtual field trips".
My Project
My students are working with the Special Education program in our school to create an educational sensory mat for students who need sensory therapy and have limited mobility. This mat would allow students to work on social-emotional skills as well as fine motor skills.
The play mat would serve as the place for student to sit while explore the resources attached to it using zippers and velcro.
The mat would have tactile resources made from the sequin fabric, clay models, buttons, squishy items, and more. It would also have bluetooth sensory sounds made possible by the headphones.
Overall this mat would allow for students to grow and explore in a way that meets their physical needs.
