Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school, where every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily because of the high number of families that qualify.
All students come from different backgrounds and our school is a place where that is celebrated and embraced every day.
Kindergarten is a grade where many students are coming to school for the first time and are truly diving into the world of education. With advancing curriculum and the adversity some students have coming into school, kindergarten is the time and place to explore, experiment, and find a love for education.
My Project
We have seen throughout this pandemic many students have faced limited social experiences compared to what they were experiencing just 3 years ago. My current students are about 5-6 years old and have spent the majority of their lives during the pandemic. Most of their memories have been surrounded by such and have limited their accessibility to many different hands-on opportunities.
My hope is to curate different themes and experiences in our dramatic play area and sensory table.
Dramatic play is important for child development because it encourages students to explore situations they have seen or had themselves, promotes conflict resolution with peers, encourages imaginative thinking, helps with language development, and more.
