My students need paint pens to spark their creativity and allows them to communicate in their own way. The puppets and the sand tray miniature starter kit allows students to communicate as that character.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a first year school counselor in a Title I school, I strive to recognize and support all of the needs of the students enrolled. Our students show great strength and perseverance inside and outside of the school despite the challenges they face everyday.
Even at their young age, our students strive to achieve their dreams.
As their school counselor, I strive to do everything I can to support them achieve their goals. Providing early intervention through skill building lessons, individual and group counseling, and character building opportunities are just a few of the many interventions and/or opportunities that are available to foster resilience in out students.
My main goal? To foster an environment that allows our students to healthy and confident life long learners by supporting their academic, social/emotional, and behavioral needs.
My Project
Play is the natural way children express themselves. I have chosen to utilize a sand tray to foster their creativity and help them express their thoughts and feelings. Puppets will also allow students to speak within a metaphor as opposed to exposing themselves when they are not ready. Play therapy techniques are used encourage communication, regulate emotions, promote problem solving, and many more developmental positives needed to help all students be the best they can be.
When some students come to school, they are ready to learn; unfortunately, others are preoccupied with an unpredictable home life.
With these supplies, students will be able to have an outlet within the school that allows them the time they need to express themselves. Without these opportunities, students are at risk for negative behaviors that take away from their learning experiences in the classroom.
