Our preschool classroom is filled with low income ESL students ranging in age from three to five years olds. These children love school and work hard everyday. They enjoy everything that our program has to offer. Since the majority of our students are ESL the best way that our children learn is through hands on experiences and play. We also help our parents engage with their children and show them the importance of play based education.
We are in need of more scientific hands on activities that will help enrich our students and help them to explore, investigate and discover all the possibilities that play based learning has to offer.
My Project
Teaching in a classroom filled with low income, ESL children, it is important that we provide them with a stable and effective learning environment. We need to give these students the best support and education we can to develop their young minds.
Imagination is key for having a successful classroom.
In a world where iPhones and iPads are in constant use, it is important that we as educators supply our students with several tools in our classroom that lead to imaginative play and creativity. We need to provide these children with tangible objects that they can touch, feel and create with.
A light table would create a learning experience that would facilitate hands on learning. It would give my students access to a more exciting learning experience. I would be able to utilize the different accessories to create lessons that my students have never experienced. The different colors, letters and numbers would create a visually stimulating learning exercise.
The sensory set would allow my students to access and learn about materials that is not easily obtainable in suburban Pittsburgh. It’s also a way for my students to develop and strengthen senses and use different words to describe the materials. This would be extremely beneficial to develop a deeper understanding of the English language.
All in all, a light table and accessories would be a great helping hand in assimilating my students into
