Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The items that I have selected are specific to the needs of my students. I work with students in special ed Pre-k, autism classrooms and GEM classroom (students with multiple disabilities/ special needs). Almost all of my students have sensory processing difficulties.

They need sensory opportunities built into their day to help regulate their body and emotions so they are ready to learn.

The compression vests, climbing rope, and the swing have been highly effective with my students this year.

I also chose some cause-and-effect toys that can be used to facilitate motor planning skills, social interactions, turn-taking, choice-making, and fun!! I have one motorized ladybug that the students absolutely LOVE. They will do academic work to earn a few minutes to try and drive it around! I also love these toys because my students in the GEM program are able to manipulate the controls as well and if not I can adapt them with switches!!

The transparent letters will be used on our lightbox. The students love to sit and watch the colors change in our calming corner. These letters will add an interactive element while not taking away from the calm atmosphere.
