My students love to create using play dough. Using play dough is a great way to reinforce literacy skills through the power of rolling, sculpting and molding.
I teach kindergarten in an Oklahoma A+ school that values learning through the multiple intelligences.
My students are tactile learners who need hands on experiences to make learning meaningful. Many of the children in my classroom have limited learning experiences outside the classroom, therefore, bringing hands on learning experiences to the classroom is critical.
My Project
Providing my students with these play dough letter and number stamps, rolling pins, number and letter cards as well as trays will give my students the tools necessary to combine their love of molding and sculpting with literacy. My students will be able to use the letter cards to visually see the letters as well as use it to help them build the letters using play dough. My students will also be able to use the letter stamps to create high frequency words and simple sentences. These materials will provide an active hands on literacy experience.
Using these tools will help build independence in my classroom as well as differentiate each child's learning.
If a student is a tactile learner, using the play dough and materials will help build their literacy skills.
