I have a fast-growing caseload of around 80 students! In speech therapy, we work on articulation, language, fluency, voice, social skills, feeding, and many more skills necessary to be successful in school.
My students are creative, thoughtful, and want to learn.
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to better their communication skills. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My Project
A play kitchen would be a valuable speech therapy tool because it is functional and engaging! There are countless ways to use and adapt this versatile toy that kids love! A toy kitchen can be used to work on many goals – expressive and receptive language, articulation, and social skills.
Since playing with a kitchen is motivating, it is a great way to help students to make requests.
The child needs to request via non-verbal communication (signs, pointing) or verbal communication (single word, complete sentence) depending on their ability.
Toy kitchens are a great open-ended activity to work on generalizing speech skills, in particular, articulation (speech sounds). Incorporating speech sound targets allows students to practice with a less structured activity.
