Ms. Horowitz from Baltimore MD is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need play-based learning materials like costumes and learning centers for choice/center time in the classroom.

Baltimore would not be the same without my energetic, enthusiastic and motivated learners! My students walk into the classroom every day with big smiles on their faces. They look to me each morning, ready to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. We have all truly developed into a family and get through every day with the support from each other.
My students are my inspiration and motivation.
I go to school eager to see them and help guide them in their education and lives. While my students may experience hardships outside of the classroom, they come to school with open minds and leave their problems at the door. I look to provide for them the best experiences and equal opportunities that they deserve.
My kindergartners are lucky to be given one hour each day in our classroom for play-based learning. At this time students are able to choose a designated area to explore in the classroom. These areas include science, art, blocks, drama, writing, reading, puzzles and computers. Center/choice time is a crucial part of my students day, giving them more time to practice skills taught in the classroom without the support of the teacher.
My students actively explore their environment and the world around them through play-based learning.
As my kindergartners learn through purposeful, quality play experience, they build critical basic skills for cognitive development and academic achievement. These skills include, but are not limited to taking turns, sharing, building ideas off of each other, thinking critically, using academic talk and so much more. This time allows my students to develop their social and emotional skills, which most of them often lack.
While we have some materials for students to explore/play with in the classroom, they are being held back to their full potential with the limited amount that we have. Some of these materials will tie into our "Community Helpers" and "Healthy Habits" units coming up in the next few months. Students will then be able to continue exploring these units and the important roles they play in our every day lives with the food materials, doctor's office kit, mail carrier costume, and play phone. Students will also be able to practice their reading and writing skills with the write the letter activity center, simple sentences center, sight word mailboxes, and find the letter activity center. With the addition of these materials, students will be able to further blossom a variety of skills, all while having fun!
