Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with preschool and school-aged students (ages 3-10) who are in the special day class program. The students learn best when the concepts are taught through hands-on activities and repeated practice using tools such as puzzles.
Puzzles challenge our thinking and exercise our minds.
A child can feel a sense of accomplishment which boosts his independence and self-esteem upon solving a puzzle. Puzzles are an important educational learning tool for toddlers and young children as they provide mental learning benefits and opportunities.
My Project
I'm requesting puzzle boards for students in the preschool and school-aged program. The puzzles provide an opportunity for my students to learn alphabets, which will help further in learning academic concepts. I'm also requesting Alphabets sounds teaching tubs to help students understand the letter-sound association through manipulatives
The puzzles help children develop gross/fine motor and eye-hand coordination, cognitive and problem-solving skills and social-emotional skills.
Most importantly, learning through puzzles and hands-on manipulatives improves attention and also teaches the child to complete a task through repeated practice and trial and error methods.
I believe that puzzles and manipulatives can be a great introductory tool for students to learn basic concepts. Using puzzles, our students can develop many skills such as observing, analyzing, sharing, and problem-solving skills. The puzzle-based activities can also provide an opportunity for the child to use language (e.g., "Teacher, look I did this!") and to increase verbal interaction skills.
I hope that, with your generous contributions, we would be able to help our students learn early academic concepts in a fun way!
