The students in my school represent an ethnically and educationally diverse community. I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects, and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
My school serves students in grades PreK-8 and provides rigorous academics, hardworking teachers, and a safe learning environment.
Sometimes, we need extra materials to help our students learn in a different way due to the various stages of development and academic needs.
My Project
Since this pandemic or COVID 19 came about, it is harder to teach PreK, since we need to be much more conscientious about cleaning materials. Once students have played with a material in class we need to disinfect and clean it. The wooden felt or other materials are harder to clean, and need a couple of days to be disinfected, and given time to quarantine before other children can use it.
Plastic materials are easier to wash and disinfect.
It is much more practical to have plastic materials for students to investigate and create with. My project will make a difference since more materials will be available to play with since the disinfecting time will be shorter.
