This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a second year teacher that got blessed with an AMAZING group of Kindergarten Kiddos! They LOVE to learn and my motto in the classroom is "Everybody love Everybody." We have created a trusting and mutual respect for each other.
I want to provide them with rich experiences, so one day they will impact the world.
My students come from in the northern side of St. Louis (Hazelwood, near Ferguson). Some have very limited resources (at home and at school) and the students are not exposed to many real life experiences. I want to be able to provide an unforgettable school experience for these young children.
My Project
Last year was my first year of teaching, so I had no idea what kind of book boxes to use for my students! I decided to use the cardboard book boxes, which sadly never lasted the entire year! Students worried about the box tearing and knocking over more than I thought they would. I learned my lesson though and decided that we needed sturdy plastic book bins this year instead!
Students will be able to focus more on their leveled reader than their ripped up cardboard box.
I can spend more time reading with students and less time taping up boxes. These plastic book bins will encourage my students to become proactive readers the entire reading time!
