Teaching 6th grade was never on my radar. I never thought this is where I would be after 19 years, but here I am and I'm loving it!
My students come from many different backgrounds, but their socioeconomic status is basically the same since 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
Starting with this deficit is a hindrance, but that doesn't stop my kiddos from being enthusiastic about school. These students are thirsty for knowledge.
Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies are all taught in the same room, with the same teacher- me. My classroom budget only goes so far and my check only provides so much. It is with donors like you that students like mine will get to experience more than I could ever provide.
My Project
The world is quickly changing and my students are being left behind. I am constantly fighting this change through technology. While some have access to gaming systems, many do not use computers to research the world around them. Science is a foreign concept. I must change this before it's too late for these kiddos to see that life is so much more than the imaginary world they create on video games.
The real world is more entertaining than anything we could ever create if they would just step back and look.
We have plants that are made of cells. The moon changes and we don't have to do anything to manipulate it. Our earth changes and recycles itself constantly as evident in the earthquake we had earlier this week.
How can you help? I need computers to show them how magnificent our world is and how they need to appreciate every aspect.
