Kylie and Mason came to me with an idea that they were both interested in making happen in our classroom. Both of these students love coding and they want to help other students learn more about the ideas behind this fun activity. They are interested in getting an accessory for our Dot and Dash that we have in our classroom. They are also interested in an OSMO device that can hook to their iPads. This comes with a coding program, as well as, other activities that they can use to teach other students.
They were also interested in growing live plants within the classroom during our plant unit. This is why they are interested in the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden.
I am very excited about this project - specifically because it was generated by two of my students. Coding in the classroom is a very easy way to make students excited about learning about technology. By getting the accessory for our Dot and Dash robots and by getting the OSMO device in our classroom, students will be able to learn about the ideas behind coding. The ideas and concepts that are involved in coding will making my students be thinkers and learners. My students will teach each other these concepts, which will help them develop a sense of teamwork. This project is also requesting a Miracle-Gro AeroGarden to enhance our plant unit. My students will be in charge of taking care of this, which will serve to promote responsibility.
In Their Own Words
Through Mr. Heisey's help, we would like to get some coding materials and a Miracle-Gro AeroGarden. We hope to teach other students about how much fun coding is and how much you can learn through the idea of coding. We would like to bring a more hands-on approach to Mr. Heisey's plant unit by using the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden to grow live plants and take care of them in the classroom.
Mr. Heisey has told us that we will be in charge of teaching our classmates about coding. We will be the leaders and we will be in charge of help the students learn about this concept. We are super excited to get started with the OSMO device and the Dot and Dash accessory. Plus, we will also get a chance to assign students to take care of the plants that grow with the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden.
Many students have not had the opportunity to learn about coding. We feel that coding is a fun way to learn new things. Both the coding materials and the Miracle-Gro AeroGarden will provide us and our classmates with a unique hands-on way of learning the material that Mr. Heisey must teach us.
