My students are a group of energetic first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. They attend a high poverty, Title I school in rural Georgia. Over 85% of my children live in poverty. Our elementary school is a low-income, rural school that has children that are homeless.
Regardless of our socioeconomic status, these students are young, ambitious, and smart.
Despite their hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn as much as they can so they can be successful. I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day with smiles on their faces.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting will be project-based for my students. The AeroGarden will teach them responsibility of taking care of our earth and living things. Imagine fresh herbs and vegetables grown in a classroom, year-round. With the AeroGarden Bounty Elite we will be able to grow fresh herbs, vegetables, salad greens, flowers and more! This smart countertop garden uses water and patented nutrients to naturally grow plants… no herbicides, no pesticides, non-GMO. It’s natural goodness right at our fingertips. This resources will bring environmental science to LIFE for my first grade students.
Planting and watching their herbs and vegetables grow will excite students' interest in environmental science and motivate them to learn, encourage scientific inquiry, investigation, and experimentation, while requiring students to become active participants instead of passive learners.
This project will help them develop an understanding of how plants grow and teach them responsibility by having to take care of their plants.
