My students need hands on resources such as insect figurines, a veggie sorting set, and Build-a-Bouquet, to play and learn about plants and animals growing and changing.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to my preschool classroom where my three year old students have fun learning through hands-on experiences, social interactions, individual, small group and whole group experiences. We are a charter school in New Haven, CT and the students come from varied backgrounds, but the majority are from low-income families. I am the first teacher these students have at our school, and I strive to make their first year in school enjoyable and successful. Preschool students are curious and want to learn, and I am glad I can help them do that.
My Project
This is the last theme of my preschoolers year and they will be discovering how plants and animals grow and change. The resources I am requesting will be placed in the different learning centers in the classroom for the students to explore, engage and develop an understanding of how plants and animals grow and change.
The gardening gloves will be in the blocks and sensory table to encourage role play while gardening.
The garden set will be in the block center to encourage students to build and plant gardens.
The gardening tools and plastic pretend flowers will be in the sensory table to explore planting.
The vegetable garden set that reinforces sorting/counting/color recognition will be at the math center to practice those skills.
The life cycles set will be in the science center to encourage discussion about how plants and animals grow and change.
The flower building set will be in the science center also to encourage creativity and building using the parts of a plant.
The soft pretend flowers will be added to the dramatic play center to help the students role play a flower shop.
The wooden pots will be added to blocks to pretend plant in pots.
I can see my students now, engaged with these materials, playing and laughing with their friends and devoloping their knowledge of how plants and animals grow and change through play and conversations in their centers.
