I am a science teacher to around 200 sixth grade students. Costs for projects are astronomical for this number of students and I have found myself needing some assistance to continue on with meaningful projects in my classroom! These projects are imperative in keeping students interested in science!
Our school currently houses Preschool through Sixth grade.
We are in KY. I would like to say that I have the best students in the world. I am extremely excited to begin this school year. After attending science workshops this summer, I am very excited to begin the school year and continue on with these meaningful projects that I've learned about! These kids love hands-on, meaningful projects!
My Project
My students need the clay and plaster to do casts of plants during our plant unit. With the resources that the donors will provide, the students will receive a HANDS-ON experience with not only the arts but also with our biological science plant unit. The students will be plaster casting molds of different plants that they will gather in their environment. Not only will this teach them the plaster casting process in the arts area, but it will also help them see the many different parts of plants, such as stems, leaves, and flower parts. It's very exciting for students to create AND apply what they have learned within the science classroom to identify what they have casted and created!
Not only is this project important for students to apply what they have learned across science and art class, but it's also important to our school.
Our classes are responsible for documenting these collaborative efforts with the arts in documents called "Program Reviews." This project will meet those requirements perfectly while educating these students by creating meaningful, hands-on products!
