Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the satisfaction that comes from creatively solving a difficult problem or challenge? My students know that feeling well. They love to design and create, using many different materials to create whatever they need. Often our students come to us frustrated by life in a low-income neighborhood in a big city. They can feel ignored or powerless. Being a part of a STEM school empowers them to change the world they live in!
Working in a MakerSpace allows my students to express their creativity and showcase their varied talents.
They can use design software, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, or arts and crafts materials to create whatever they can imagine! From first through fourth grades, all of my students cannot wait to use the engineering design process to be true Makers!
My Project
When students come to my lab, they plan, build, and revise projects based on their interests and classes. They love using green screens, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, wood, cardboard, and more to create whatever they need. However, they struggle with planning and revising their plans. These steps are often described as boring or hard.
These chairs will give my students a comfortable place to sit while they plan and revise their projects.
If they are comfortable while planning and revising, they will hopefully take their time on these steps, allowing then to take part fully in the engineering design process. This will allow them to make their projects be the best possible!
